As a co-op in the R&D; department, the individual will have the opportunity to use state of the art tools, observe world class surgeons in DePuy's new training facility, and take advantage of on-site training courses. We have a number of opportunities available for students in variety of areas:
Mechanical or Biomechanical Engineering:
We are seeking a number of engineering students looking to gain real life experience in the medical device industry. This co-op will be working in a cross-functional group (QA/MFG/RD/MKT) supporting one of our many projects. Opportunities exist to work on soft tissue repair (rotator cuff, labral repair, or ACL repair) solutions, electro-mechanical systems and their respective disposables (such as tubing sets, blades and burrs), on orthopedic spine implant and instrument systems, on our fracture repair or cranial repair solutions as well as in our Research and Testing group. The individual will work with a senior level engineer supporting various product development activities that may include performing product testing and writing testing reports, test fixture design, implant and instrument design, and lastly creating and managing design control documentation. The individual will also have a chance to work with surgeons in a cadaveric setting assessing device performance and obtaining surgeon feedback. The co-op should be a self-motivated mechanical or biomechanical engineer with an interest in anatomy and/or medical devices for the orthopedic market.
Plastics or Material Engineering:
Working with cross-functional product development teams and alongside experienced engineers, the candidate will contribute to design solutions and the advancement of new product development projects. You will be assigned to specific product and/or support teams to design test fixtures and prototypes as well as perform testing, experimentation and validation to support product design. In addition, will include 25% of plastics biomaterials characterization involving molding, materials and testing.
Software/Electrical Engineering:
Working with cross-functional product development teams and alongside experienced engineers, the candidate will contribute to design solutions and the advancement of new product development projects. You will be assigned to specific product and/or support teams to design test fixtures and prototypes as well as perform testing, experimentation and validation to support product design. The candidate's daily tasks will involve developing and troubleshooting code in C/C+
for one of our Fluid Management platforms. The person will also provide support to electrical engineers by troubleshooting circuits.
Biomechanical or Biomedical Engineering:
This co-op will be part of a team that creates the next generation of Orthopedic solutions, including suture anchors, bone screws, and rods. You will experience the development process from a hand's on perspective--researching existing art, brainstorming new ideas, developing prototypes, and vetting concepts in the lab internally and with our surgeon-partners.
Qualifications
Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college, pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering (Mechanical/Biomechanical, Biomedical/Bio, Materials or Plastics, Chemical/Biochemical, Electrical, Computer) or science (Biology, Chemistry, Immunology, Computer Science).
Candidates must be available to work full-time (40 hrs/week) during the either the Spring (January - June), Summer (May/June - August) or Fall (July - December) 2015 semester. Only students in their sophomore year or above will be considered. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.
This position is located in Raynham, MA. Students must be able to provide their own transportation since this location is not within walking distance from the train station. Students must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require future sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H1-B status) now or in the future.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
